PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a permanent magnet type rotating machine of high output and heat resistance which uses a permanent magnet having a high residual magnetic flux density and high coercive force at a magnet outer perimeter part for a rotor as a split magnet.
SOLUTION : A permanent magnet rotating machine contains a stator and a rotor in which a permanent magnet segment 12 is embedded inside a rotor core arranged with an air gap in between. Otherwise, relating to a rotor for a permanent magnet type rotating machine, a stator and a rotor in which a plurality of permanent magnet segments are attached to a rotor core surface are arranged with an air gap in between. The rotor comprises an aggregate in which each of the permanent magnet segments is split in two or more to form permanent magnet pieces 12a of Nd based rare earth sintered magnet. The coercive force near the surface of each split permanent magnet is greater than the coercive force inside the split permanent magnet. An insulation layer is not provided between magnet pieces, and the contact surfaces of the magnet pieces are ground, such that the magnet pieces directly contact each other while there is electrical continuation between the magnet pieces.
