ABSTRACT A system for repelling sharks from surfers when surfing is provided including, for example, a surfboard fin comprising a rare earth material magnet, such as neodymium or samarium-cobalt, where the magnet is secured to the fin in sufficient quantity and arrangement to exhibit a magnetic field surrounding the fin sufficient to repel sharks when the fin is placed in the water.
