PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an abrasion resistant member containing a silicon nitride sintered body capable of being manufactured in a low cost and excellent in reliability with suppressed variation of properties.SOLUTION : There is provided an abrasion resistant member containing a silicon nitride sintered body having a sphere shape with a diameter of 20 mm or more and volume of 4000 mm3 or more, the silicon nitride sintered body contains a rare earth element component of 1 to 5 mass% in terms of a rare earth element, an Al element component of 1 to 6 mass% in terms of an Al element, an Fe element component of 10 to 3500 ppm in terms of an Fe element, a Ce element component of 10 to 1000 ppm in terms of a Ce element, a β rate of the silicon nitride crystal particles is 95% or more, the maximum major diameter of the silicon nitride crystal particles is 40 μm or less, and variation of a Vickers hardness and a fracture toughness value of the inside of the silicon nitride sintered body is within ±10%, and an average aspect ratio of the silicon nitride crystal particle at a unit area 100 μm×100 μm of an arbitrary mirror finished cross section is 2 to 10.COPYRIGHT : (C)2014, JPO&INPIT
