PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a thermal spray material excellent in stable supply property to a thermal spray apparatus, and capable of obtaining a sprayed coating hardly exfoliating from a substrate even when receiving a thermal shock. SOLUTION : In a thermal spray material comprising granule containing an oxyfluoride of a rare earth element, a cumulative volume grain diameter at the cumulative volume 50 volume% by a laser diffraction scattering particle size distribution measuring method is 1 μm to 150 μm before an ultrasonic dispersion treatment and 10 μm or less after the ultrasonic dispersion treatment at 300 W for 15 minutes, a cumulative volume grain diameter after the ultrasonic dispersion treatment is 1/3 or less of the cumulative volume grain diameter before the ultrasonic dispersion treatment, an average aspect ratio is 2.0 or less, and a compression degree is 30% or less.
