PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a phosphate laser glass having a peak emission wavelength that is shorter than 1054 nm, a laser system using the phosphate laser glass, and a method of generating laser beam pulses using the laser system.
SOLUTION : The invention relates to a method of incorporating Nd-doped (and/or Yb-doped and/or Er-doped) cerium oxide (CeO2) into a phosphate glass host system preferably in replacement of lanthanum oxide, to shift the peak emission wavelength to a wavelength shorter than 1054 nm. The invention also relates to the use of mixed-glass arrangement and phase compensation in which one of the glasses in a mixed glass system is a Nd-doped (and/or Yb-doped and/or Er-doped) phosphate laser glass having a peak emission wavelength that is shorter than 1054 nm. The invention further relates to a laser system in which the system power output is at least one petawatt per pulse or greater.
