PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new actuator that ensures stop holding force during no-supply of power and has stability, responsiveness, and high durability of a swing arm, even with a magnet that uses no rare earth.
SOLUTION : A swing type actuator comprises : a housing 1; a shaft 2 supported in the housing 1 so as to free to rotate around its axis; a flat-disk-like swing arm 3, which swings around the center of a circle within a predetermine range of rotation angle while fixed and supported by the shaft 2; two permanent magnets 4 arranged along the swinging direction of the swing arm 3 such that different poles are juxtaposed with each other; two electromagnetic coils 5 arranged opposite the magnetic pole faces of the permanent magnets 4 at both ends with respective air gaps therebetween; and a pair of auxiliary poles 6, made of a magnetic substance, which are arranged opposite each other so as to sandwich one of the juxtaposed permanent magnets 4 with an air gap between them, in the vicinity of both the end parts of the outer periphery of each electromagnetic coil 5 in the swing step. The positions where the pair of auxiliary poles 6 and the permanent magnet 4 are opposite each other are near the edge parts, on the outside of the swing, of the juxtaposed permanent magnets 4.
