A method of purifying an ionic electrolyte containing at least one alkaline-earth salt, the process comprising at least one step of contacting particles of at least one calcium salt such as calcium carbide. The method affords novel electrolytes which are especially characterized by a water content particularly low. The corresponding electrochemical generators that contain the electrolyte as component are characterized by excellent stability and are very secure.
