PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide, as a luminescent composite material in which particles of a rare earth complex polymer are dispersed within a light-permeable resin, a luminescent composite material having an excellent light permeability. SOLUTION : The provided luminescent composite material includes a light-permeable resin and luminescent nanocrystals of a rare earth complex polymer having an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less and dispersed within the light-permeable resin. The rare earth complex polymer not only includes multiple trivalent rare earth ions and multiple phosphine oxide polydentate ligands but also includes a crosslinked structure formed as a result of the coordinations of the phosphine oxide polydentate ligands on the multiple rare earth ions.
