The invention relates to a fuel element for a nuclear reactor that includes cladding and a fissile nuclear fuel material, such as the isotopes of uranium, plutonium, thorium, and the mixture thereof, and generates fission products such as tellurium, iodine, cesium, and molybdenum, characterized in that it includes a material for preventing the corrosion of said cladding, comprising at least one alkaline-earth metal, which can be barium, strontium, calcium, or an alkaline-earth metal oxide, for trapping the molybdenum fission product.
