PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide : a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, improving initial discharge capacity and capable of suppressing deterioration in average operating voltage; a method for producing the positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery; and a positive electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery manufactured using the positive electrode active material.
SOLUTION : A positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises : a lithium transition metal composite oxide 21 that contains at least lithium, nickel and manganese and has a layered structure; and a compound 22 of a rare earth element adhering on at least a part of the surface of the lithium transition metal composite oxide 21. The average particle size of the compound 22 of a rare earth element is more than 100 nm and 500 nm or less.
