PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a melting method of a rare earth magnet material having high suppression effect of oxidation, hydroxylation and nitriding of a dissolved rare earth magnet material, in a process for producing quenched ribbons by dissolving the rare earth magnet material. SOLUTION : A melting method of a rare earth magnet material comprises a first step for placing a rare earth magnet material J of RE-Fe-B-based composition (RE : at least one kind of Nd and Pr) in a melting furnace 1, housing the melting furnace 1 in a chamber 10, and further mounting a getter material G composed of an RE-Y alloy (Y : a metallic element not containing a heavy rare earth element) having a melting point lower than that of the rare earth magnet material J in the chamber 10, and a second step for dissolving the getter material G by bringing an atmosphere of temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of the getter material G into the chamber 10, and then dissolving the rare earth magnet material J by bringing an atmosphere of temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of the rare earth magnet material J into the chamber 10.
