PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a superconductive wire rod which is excellent in a function of protecting a superconductive wire rod when quenching occurs and can keep superconductive characteristics well and a superconductive coil using it.
SOLUTION : In a superconductive wire rod 11, a superconductive layer 14 composed of a rare earth-based oxide superconductor is formed on a substrate 12 through an intermediate layer 13; the superconductive layer 14 is coated with a stabilization layer 16 composed of copper through a protective layer 15; and a metal layer 17 composed of a metal softer than copper is provided on the stabilization layer 16. The metal forming the metal layer 17 preferably has a Mohs hardness of lower than 3.0. Specifically, the metal forming the metal layer 17 is indium, lead, tin, bismuth or silver. The thickness of the stabilization layer is 5-30 μm, and the thickness of the metal layer is 5-20 μm.
