Disclosed are a rare-earth contained Y type molecular sieve and a preparation method thereof. The molecular sieve has a rare earth content of 10-25 wt%, a lattice parameter of 2.440-2.472 nm, a degree of crystallinity of 35-65 % and an atomic ratio of framework silica to alumina of 2.5-5.0. In the X-ray diffraction graph of the molecular sieve, the product of I1/I2 and the weight percentage of the rare earth is greater than 48, wherein I1 is the intensity of peak 2θ=11.8±0.1°, I2 is the intensity of peak 2θ=12.3±0.1°, and the percentage of the rare earth is weighted by rare-earth oxide.
