PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth magnet having a high coercive force, a high magnetic flux density and a high specific resistance, and to provide a rotary machine using the same.SOLUTION : In the rare earth magnet made of a ferromagnetic material mainly consisting of iron, rare earth element and fluorine, a fluorine compound or an acid fluorine compound containing at least one kind of light rare earth element is formed inside a crystal grain or at a grain boundary, and RFeF(R : a light rare earth element; l, m, n : an integer of one or greater) with a crystal structure of a four-fold symmetry is present between the fluorine compound or the acid fluorine compound, and the inside of the crystal grain or the grain boundary, the concentration of fluorine being higher in the grain boundary than inside the crystal grain.
