The rare earth phosphate particles include a rare earth element A (A represents Sc, Y, La, Eu, Gd, Dy, Yb, or Lu) and a rare earth element B different from element A (B represents Sc, Y, La, Eu, Gd, Dy, Yb, or Lu). It is preferable that the phosphate of element A is crystalline and that at least part of element B is solid-solved in the phosphate of element A. It is also preferable that the crystal structure of the phosphate of element A is a xenotime structure or a monazite structure.
