The invention relates to a flame-resistant material for high-temperature applications, to a method for the production thereof, and to the use thereof. The problem addressed by the invention is that of providing a flame-resistant material which can be used in high-temperature processes and the service life of which is increased owing to increased chemical corrosion resistance, resistance to thermal fluctuation and resistance to material spalling. The flame-resistant material according to the invention for high-temperature applications is formed from re-crystallised silicon carbide (RSiC). Here, pores in the silicon carbide material are filled with an oxide having a high melting temperature or with carbon. During production, a process is followed in which an open-pored body composed of RSiC is infiltrated with a suspension comprising an oxide having a high melting temperature or with a solution/emulsion of a hydrocarbon compound. After the infiltration, said body is dried and, during a thermal treatment, a calcination of the oxide, or in the case of a hydrocarbon compound, a pyrolysis which leads to the expulsion of gaseous components and to the filling of the pores with pure carbon, is carried out.
