PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing an R-T-B-based sintered magnet that can reduce the consumption of a heavy rare-earth element RH by increasing a throughput per unit volume in heating, and lowers the manufacturing cost on a mass-production scale by repeatedly reusing the heavy rare-earth element RH without using large-scale facilities or new facilities.
SOLUTION : A method of manufacturing an R-T-B-based sintered magnet includes the steps of : preparing an R-T-B-based sintered magnet material; preparing a bulk RH diffusion source comprising 45-75% by mass of RH, 25-55% by mass of Fe, and inevitable impurities; arranging the R-T-B-based sintered magnet material and bulk RH diffusion source adjacently; and heating the adjacently arranged R-T-B-based sintered magnet material and bulk RH diffusion source at a temperature of 800-1, 000°C in a pressure-reduced atmosphere of 50 Pa or lower so as to vaporize the RH in the bulk RH diffusion source, and then diffusing the RH into the R-T-B-based sintered magnet material while supplying the RH to a surface of the R-T-B-based sintered magnet material.
