The purpose of the present invention is to provide a chemically stable inorganic phosphor by which excitation with near-infrared rays to blue light causes a conventional rare earth-activated nitride-based phosphor to emit long-wavelength orange- or red-colored light. The purpose of the present invention is also to provide a simple method for producing the phosphor obviating the need for production under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.
