PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a nickel hydrogen secondary battery having higher capacity recoverability, and durability for repetition of deep discharge.
SOLUTION : A nickel hydrogen secondary battery 2 is housing an electrode group 22, consisting of a positive electrode 24 and a negative electrode 26 superposed each other with a separator interposed therebetween, along with an alkaline electrolyte. The positive electrode 24 has positive electrode active material particles 36 including base particles 38 containing nickel hydroxide, and a conductive layer 40 composed of a Co compound containing Li and covering the surface of the base particles 38. The negative electrode 26 has a rare earth-Mg-Ni-based hydrogen storage alloy 44 containing a rare earth element, Mg and Ni. Total amount of Li existing in the battery 2 is 15-50 (mg/Ah), in terms of LiOH, when determined as the mass of a positive electrode per capacity of 1 Ah.
