Catalyst comprises : ruthenium applied on a support material, where the support material is aluminum oxide; and at least one alkaline earth metal alkoxylate, where the ruthenium is applied on a support material by reacting a catalyst, and the support material is obtained with at least one alkaline earth metal alkoxylate. An independent claim is also included for isomerization of stereoisomers of menthol or mixtures of stereoisomers in the presence a catalyst.
