PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkali earth metal hydroxide powder having characteristics which can be suitably used for various synthesis reactions, and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION : Akali earth metal hydroxide powder is represented by A(OH)2 xH2O (where A is one type of alkali earth metal hydroxide powder selected from barium and strontium, and x satisfies 0≤x≤1). When A is the barium, BET specific surface area is 0.2-1.5 m2/g, and compressibility represented by {(tap density-bulk density)/tap density}×100 is 1.5-35%.
