The present invention relates to a porous cathode comprising : - a porous electrically-conductive support, and - deposited on said support, a composite material comprising at least : a rare-earth oxide which is present at least partly at the surface of the cathode; and - metal particles comprising at least one compound of a transition metal suitable for reacting with a hydride in order to form a metal hydride, said particles being present at least partly at the surface of the cathode.
