PURPOSE : An alpha sialon sinter is more stable than the existing sialon sinter with respect to the alpha - beta phase transition at around 1000 °C. The sialon particle within the sinter is needle-shaped and is provided to produce alpha sialon having no beta sialon. CONSTITUTION : An alpha sialon sinter is indicated as M_xRe_ySi_12-m-nAl_m+nO_nN_16-n (0.3<=m<=1.0, m=2n, 0.02<=y<=0.15, m=2x+3y) and the molar ratio of M to Re is 19-50. In the above formula, M is one or more atoms selected from a group consisting of Li, Mg, Ca, and Y. Re is one or more atoms selected form a group consisting of Eu, Ce, Tb, Yb, Sm, and Dy. The M includes Ca and the Re contains Eu. The Re is included in the sinter 2 weight% or less based on oxide equivalent.
