Provided is a metal recovery process which makes it possible to recover objective metal elements efficiently from tin slag or other slag generated in metal refining. This metal recovery process is a process which is to be employed in recovering objective rare earth elements from tin slag generated in tin refining and which comprises : subjecting molten slag generated in the refining step to rapid cooling at a cooling rate of 300°C/sec or more and pulverization to form slag; subjecting the obtained slag to acid or alkaline leaching to leach objective metal elements from the slag; and then subjecting the obtained leachate to either at least one treatment selected from among neutralization, redox treatment, solvent extraction treatment and precipitation treatment or a combination of two or more treatments selected therefrom to recover the objective metal elements.
