PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a nitride fluorescent substance containing a rare earth element, by which the reaction can easily be controlled, and the nitride fluorescent substance having a desired particle size distribution can be obtained.
SOLUTION : A method for producing a nitride fluorescent substance, having a process for calcinating a fluorescent substance raw material, is characterized by using a rare earth metal hydride as the fluorescent substance raw material. When the nitride fluorescent substance is synthesized, hydrogen is released from the rare earth metal hydride, and a nitrogen atom is then easily replaced to homogeneously progress a nitriding reaction. Thus, the nitride fluorescent substance having an emission peak intensity comparable with those by conventional methods can simply be produced at a lower cost.
