The invention describes a method for producing a magnetic material from a starting material, wherein the starting material comprises at least one rare earth metal (SE) and at least one transition metal, with the steps : - producing monocrystalline particles from the starting material; - hydrogenating the monocrystalline particles; - disproportioning the monocrystalline particles; - desorption; - and recombination, wherein a comminution step is performed before hydrogenation and/or after recombination.
