PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a recovery method of rare earth element capable of efficiently recovering rare earth elements from a solution containing rare earth elements together with valuable metals obtained from a scrap article such as a battery, by reducing the amount of chemicals used for recovering.
SOLUTION : An alkali metal sulfate is added to an aqueous solution containing rare earth elements and valuable metals to generate a double sulfate precipitate of the rare earth element to recover the double sulfate precipitate. Then an alkali sulfide is added to the filtrate after separating the double sulfate precipitate to form a sulfide of the valuable metal. Then a neutralizer is added to the filtrate sulfide after separating the sulfide to control pH, thereby obtaining a neutralized precipitate and neutralized filtrate. Then the acquired neutralized filtrate is, as an alkali metal sulfate source, repeatedly used by mixing into the solution containing the rare earth elements and the valuable metals, to generate the double sulfate of the rare earth element.
