PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a nickel steel that can be used in a high-pressure hydrogen environment of 100 MPa or less. SOLUTION : A nickel steel for high-pressure hydrogen comprises, in mass%, Ni : 14.0% or more and less than 20.0%, C : 0.003-0.080%, Si : 0.03-0.30%, Mn : 0.10-0.50%, Mo : 0.10-0.50%, Al : 0.010-0.060%, N : 0.0015-0.0050%, O : 0.0030% or less, P : 0.0070% or less, S : 0.0040% or less, Cu : 0-0.50%, Cr : 0-0.50%, Nb : 0-0.020%, Ti : 0-0.020%, V : 0-0.50%, B : 0-0.0020%, Ca : 0-0.0040%, a rare earth element : 0-0.0050%, with the balance being Fe and impurities, wherein, the nickel steel is mainly composed of a body-centered cubic lattice structure, the Ni solid solution amount in the body-centered cubic lattice structure is 12.5% or more, the old austenite grain size is 12.0 μm or less, and the tensile strength is 930 MPa or less.
