PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical fiber amplifier capable of keeping an output signal power constant even if the input signal light power changes and of reducing variation in gain tilt. SOLUTION : In the optical fiber amplifier, optical amplifying units having optical fibers containing rare earth elements added thereto as amplifying media are connected in series at multiple stages to control a gain so as to output a constant output signal light power regardless of the input signal light power. The optical amplifying units include one optical amplifying unit that has a gain change rate smaller than gain change rates of other optical amplifying units. The optical fiber amplifier includes a control circuit which, when the input signal light power changes, controls only the gain of the optical amplifying unit having the smaller gain change rate so as to output the constant output signal light power.
