PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To stably improve corrosion resistance of a Nb-containing ferritic stainless steel material, especially corrosion resistance to chloride. SOLUTION : There is provided a ferritic stainless steel material having a steel composition containing, by mass%, C : 0.001 to 0.080%, Si : 0.05 to 1.50%, Mn : 0.05 to 1.50%, P : 0.001 to 0.080%, S : 0.0001 to 0.010%, Ni : 0.01 to 0.60%, Cr : 11.0 to 25.0%, Cu : 0 to 2.00%, Mo : 0 to 3.00%, N : 0.001 to 0.080%, Nb : 0.10 to 0.80%, and if necessary, a proper amount of one or more kinds of Ti, Zr, V, Ta, Sn, B, REM (rear earth element). In the ferritic stainless steel material, peaks of Nb and Cr are present in an area of a depth from an outermost surface in a range of 5 to 30 nm, in an element concentration profile in a depth direction by XPS, and Nb concentration at the peak position of the Nb is 10 mol% or more.
