PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline secondary battery capable of easily determining a remaining battery charge at a high accuracy and excellent in characteristic for service life. SOLUTION : Each of negative electrodes 4 in the alkaline secondary battery is composed of a rare earths-Mg-Ni-group metal hydride alloy, and contains at least a first and a second metal hydride alloy particles 14, 16 with mutually different hydrogen equilibrium pressure. Percentages of mass of the first metal hydride alloy particle 14 is ≥50% and ≤90%, and the second metal hydride alloy particle 16 is ≥10% and ≤50%, respectively, based on a total mass of the rare earths-Mg-Ni-group metal hydride alloy contained in the negative electrode 4. The first metal hydride alloy particle 14 has a composition given by a predetermined expression. The hydrogen equilibrium pressure P1 of the first metal hydride alloy particle 14 is larger than the hydrogen equilibrium pressure P2 of the second metal hydride alloy particle 16, and the difference ΔP in the hydrogen equilibrium pressure (=log10(P1/P2)) is ≥0.3.
