PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method and a device for manufacturing a fiber-optic strand in which residual compressive stress is reliably and stably imparted to the surface layer of the bare-optical-fiber portion, that is, a fiber-optic strand having reliably and stably excellent bending resistance.
SOLUTION : A bare optical fiber 16 pulled out from a fiber spinning heating furnace 14 is cooled and solidified, and when the surface temperature of the bare optical fiber 16 reaches ≤100°C, the surface layer only of the bare optical fiber 16 is caused to re-melt while applying tension to the bare optical fiber 16. The surface layer is then caused to re-solidify and coated with a resin to thereby obtain a fiber-optic strand 24 in which compressive stress exists in the surface of the bare optical fiber 16 in a state after tension release.
