PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electrode material for a secondary battery having a small average particle diameter and capable of enhancing efficiency of a cell reaction and charge-discharge cycle characteristics, and a method for manufacturing the electrode for a secondary battery at low cost and with high productivity. SOLUTION : The method comprises the steps of : generating particles containing a hydroxide of Sn and one or more kinds of transition metals selected from the group consisting of Co, Ni, Fe, Cu, Cr, In, Ag, and Ti, and one or more kinds of additional elements selected from the group consisting of Al, Si, Zr, and rare-earth elements including Y; drying the particles obtained; and then heating the particles in a reducing atmosphere.
