Provided are a rare earth permanent magnet and a method for manufacturing the rare earth permanent magnet whereby net shape is improved, thereby enabling the manufacturing process to be simplified and productivity to be improved. A magnetic material is pulverized into a magnetic powder, and a mixture is produced by mixing the pulverized magnetic powder with a binder. The mixture that was produced is then formed into a long sheet, and a green sheet is manufactured. Next, the manufactured green sheet is maintained at a binder-decomposing temperature for a fixed time in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, causing the binder to decompose into monomers due to a depolymerization reaction, or the like, and scatter, thereby removing the binder. A permanent magnet (1) is then manufactured by sintering the green sheet, from which the binder has been removed, by means of a pressure sintering technique such as spark plasma sintering.
