Provided are a rare earth permanent magnet and a method for producing a rare earth permanent magnet with which it is possible to prevent a reduction in magnetic properties. A magnetic starting material is crushed into a magnetic powder and the crushed magnetic powder, a binder formed from hydrocarbons, and one or more organic solvents selected from organic compounds formed from hydrocarbons are kneaded to produce a slurry (12). Moreover, the resulting slurry (12) is molded into sheet form to create a green sheet (13). Then the resulting green sheet (13) is maintained for a specific time at the binder decomposition temperature under a nonoxidizing atmosphere in order to remove the binder by causing it to decompose and disperse via depolymerization or other decomposition. The green sheet (13) from which the binder has been removed is sintered by raising the temperature to the calcination temperature in order to produce a permanent magnet (1).
