PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a hydrogen storage alloy in which the hydrogen discharging action of a hydrogen storage alloy is improved, and to provide a secondary battery using the hydrogen storage alloy. SOLUTION : The hydrogen storage alloy has a chemical composition represented by general formula R1vTixR2yR3z(wherein, 03phase or a Ti(NiCo)3phase, and also comprises an R1R35phase composed of a CaCu5type crystal structure and an (R1aTibR2c)R33phase composed of a PuNi3type crystal structure (wherein, a>0, b>0, c>0, a+b+c=1).
