A thermal barrier coating material having a lower thermal conductivity than rare earth stabilized zirconia materials. Also, a thermal barrier coating material comprising mainly a cubic compound having a fluorite structure represented by composition formula (3) : €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒLn 3 NbO 7 wherein Ln represents one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Sc, Y and the lanthanoid elements.
