PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a practicable method which can efficiently collect a rare metal by using a mechanochemical reaction. SOLUTION : The rare metal is obtained by bring a powder of a rare metal oxide into mechanochemical reaction with a powder of a lanthanoide element in an atmosphere of atmospheric pressure. As the powder of a lanthanoide element, cerium is preferable. As the rare metal, indium, tin, antimony, and the like can be collected. Preferably, the mechanochemical reaction is performed while mechanically performing stirring treatment.
