PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an apparatus and method for recovering rare earth metals, capable of using powder of a rare earth magnet as a starting raw material, and separating and recovering rare earth elements and Fe-B alloy, which are structural components, and magnesium as an extracting agent respectively.
SOLUTION : In the rare earth metal recovery apparatus 100 and recovery method for recovering rare earth metals from the rare earth magnet, the apparatus includes a rare earth metal extraction reaction container 101 and a magnesium recovery container 101. Rare earth metals are extracted from the magnet 10 including rare earth metals to molten liquid magnesium 21 within the rare earth metal extraction reaction container, the resulting magnet from the rare earth metals are extracted and the liquid magnesium to which the rare earth metals are dissolved are separated from each other, and the magnesium is vaporized from the separated liquid magnesium containing rare earth metals and moved to the magnesium recovery container, thereby the rare earth metals and the magnesium are recovered.
