PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a material having a specific surface area whose surface area stability is increased. SOLUTION : The material includes each rare-earth oxide selected from among zirconium, cerium and lanthanum and yttrium, gadolinium and samarium, each oxide having a specific surface area of at least 40 m2/g and at least 15 m2/g after calcination for 4 hours at 1, 000°C and 10 hours at 1, 150°C.
