PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrogen absorbing alloy capable of maintaining high capacity over a long period of time when a battery is repeatedly charged and discharged, thereby contributing to the improvement of battery cycle life characteristics.
SOLUTION : A hydrogen absorbing alloy of the present invention is a rare earth-Mg-Ni-based hydrogen absorbing alloy, and includes a mixed phase comprising an A2B4 subunit L and an AB5 subunit H. The mixed phase includes a basic unit 2 represented as [LHLHHH] (where, L represents an A2B4 subunit and H represents an AB5 subunit), and the basic unit 2 is periodically laminated in a c-axis direction among crystal directions in a crystal structure.
