(57) Abstract : A cathode with a replaceable assembly for retarding flow in an aluminum electrolytic cell is disclosed, which com- prises a cathode carbon block (1) arranged at the bottom of the aluminum electrolytic cell and a cathode assembly (2) for retarding flow arranged on the surface of the cathode carbon block. The cathode assembly (2) for retarding flow is made from a material with high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and large density such as mullite, spinel or zircon. The cross section of the cathode assembly (2) for retarding flow is in the shape of semicircle, arc or streamline. The height of the cathode assembly for re- tarding flow is in a range of 50-150 mm, and the width is in a range of 100-300 mm. The cathode assembly (2) for retarding flow is in the form of long strip or block. The cathode assembly(2) for retarding flow is arranged in the longitudinal direction of the cathode in the electrolytic cell, and each group has one or more cathode assemblies(2) for retarding flow. The stability of the inter- face between the aluminum solution and the electrolyte is properly improved in the aluminum electrolytic cell, and then the polar distance is effectively reduced during normal production. A lower working voltage thus obtained in the electrolytic cell will in turn lead to an effect of saving and reducing energy consumption.
