The engine (12) has an air supply line (14) including an exhaust gas re-circulation loop (10) with a valve (28) that controls exhaust gas flow. A connection conduit (22) connects an exhaust gas inlet (24) and the valve. A metallic structured particle filter (26) filters particles, and is arranged in the conduit. The line has a supercharged air cooler (44) to cool a part of gas circulating in the loop by coolant. The filter has a catalytic phase that comprises an active oxidation phase including elements selected from transition metal oxides and/or rare earth oxides.
