PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To use a membrane even under an environment of mixed gas atmosphere containing CO2by overcoming fragility of AECeO3to CO2while maintaining proton conductivity of the AECeO3. SOLUTION : This is composed of a composite membrane of a proton conductive oxide membrane 1 which has perovskite type oxide (ABO3) as the basic structure wherein barium (Ba) or strontium (Sr) is arranged at A site and rare-earth element cerium (Ce) at B site, and through which a proton (H+) is enabled to pass, and from which only hydrogen is separable in a gas 3 containing CO2, and a hydrogen permeable membrane 2 through which the proton (H+) is enabled to pass, and from which only hydrogen is separable in the gas 3 containing CO2. In a state that compound interfaces of these both membranes are continuously joined together, the hydrogen permeable membrane 2 is formed on the surface of at least the gas side of the proton conductive oxide membrane 1, and the composite membranes 1, 2 are furthermore supported by a porous support S.
