PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a bismuth substituted-type rare earth-iron garnet crystal film which has an insertion loss of less than 0.6 dB and is produced in a high yield, and to provide an optical isolator.SOLUTION : The bismuth substituted-type rare earth-iron garnet crystal film is grown on a non-magnetic garnet substrate shown by chemical formula : Gd3(ScGa)5O12 by a liquid phase epitaxial growth method, and represented by chemical formula : Gd3-x-yBixRyFe5O12 (wherein, R is at least two of the rare earth element group selected from La, Ce, Pr and Nd, x≥0 and y≥0). The composition ratios of the R, Gd and Bi have a numerical range corresponding to the inside of a square shape having compositional points A, B, C and D as apexes in the R-Gd-Bi ternary system composition diagram. A : (R/0.15, Gd/1.66, Bi/1.19), B : (R/0.92, Gd/0.89, Bi/1.19), C : (R/1.31, Gd/0.89, Bi/0.80), D : (R/0.32, Gd/1.88, Bi/0.80).COPYRIGHT : (C)2012, JPO&INPIT
