This catalyst for producing a monocylic aromatic hydrocarbon : is a catalyst for producing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with 6 to 8 carbons from raw oil, of which 10% by volume has been distilled at 140°C or higher and 90% by volume has been distilled at 380°C or lower; and contains a crystalline aluminosilicate and a rare earth element, the rare earth element content being 0.1 to 10% by mass relative to the crystalline aluminosilicate in elemental terms. In this method for producing the monocylic aromatic hydrocarbon, the raw oil, of which 10% by volume has been distilled at 140°C or higher and 90% by volume has been distilled at 380°C or lower, is brought into contact with the catalyst for producing the monocylic aromatic hydrocarbon.
