[Problem] To provide : a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film (RIG) capable of being produced with an insertion loss of less than 0.6 dB and a high yield; and an optical isolator. [Solution] A bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film grown on top of a non-magnetic garnet substrate indicated by chemical formula Gd3(ScGa)5O12 by liquid-phase epitaxial growth. Said crystal film is indicated by chemical formula Nd3-x-yGdxBiyFe5O12 and is characterized by satisfying 0.89≦x≦1.43 and 0.85≦y≦1.19. Compared to conventional RIG, the RIG of the present invention and represented by chemical formula Nd3-x-yGdxBiyFe5O12 can achieve an insertion loss of less than 0.6 dB and a reduction in the amount of generated heat caused by optical absorption at approximately 1µm wavelength, and as a result has remarkable effects that can be used in a Faraday rotator for an optical isolator in a high-output laser for manufacturing.
