The harvester for root crops, especially potatoes, harvests them together with adhering earth. They are then passed over a sieve belt (2) and on to rows of spiral rollers (5) alternating with contra-rotating, smooth counter-rollers (4) the axes of these are parallel to the direction of motion of the harvester (F). Earth which is removed falls through the gaps (8) between the rollers, which are adjustable.
