In the present invention, impurities in an interface with an oxide superconductor layer or an oxide superconductor layer on an intermediate layer side are reduced. The constitution of a superconducting wire material comprises : a metal base material (10); intermediate layers (20) that are formed on the metal base material (10) and contain a rare earth element that reacts with Ba; a reaction control layer (28) formed on the intermediate layers (20) mainly containing LaMnO3 + δ1, δ1 being the amount of nonstoichiometric oxygen; and an oxide superconductor layer (30) formed on the reaction control layer (28) mainly constituted of an oxide superconductor that contains Ba.
