Chloromethane production involves utilizing methanol and silicon compound contaminated with hydrogen chloride. The silicon compounds are selected from methyl chlorosilane, methoxymethyl-silane or their hydrolysis and condensation products. A part of the silicon compounds is condensed from the formed chloromethane, and remaining silicon compounds are washed with methanol. The methanol containing received silicon compounds is used with hydrogen chloride for producing chloromethane, and amine hydrochloride is used as a catalyst.
